    Pale lemon/green in colour with a nose of white flowers and clementines, it is full of green apple fruit with hints of hazelnut and mint, finishing long with citrus notes.

    An exceptional example of one of Italy’s unsung white grape varieties. Beguiling floral nose, on the palate it is multi-layered with ripe peach flavours, a soft texture and an almond/mineral finish.

    A blend of 50% Colombard and 50% Terret, there is a leafy/herbaceous nose which leads into a full mouthful of gooseberry and greengage fruit, with a crisp citrus finish. A perfect quaffing white!

    Named after the dramatic Pic de Nore – the highest point of the dramatic Montagne Noire, this has a honeyed, floral nose.  On the palate it is bursting with lush stone fruit flavours especially apricot with a bitter twist.

    Consistently our favourite Picpoul, it has a green tinge, with a citrussy nose.  On the palate there is great concentration of soft fruit, an aromatic finish, a hint of refreshing spritz and a long aftertaste

    Vinho Verde, Portugal This vinho verde is made from the Alvarinho grape, well known in Spain. Citrus aromas with hints of mandarin mark the nose. There is lovely texture, delicious stone fruit and good minerality on the finish

    AOP Costières de Nimes This elegant white is made from 70% Roussanne and 30% Grenache Blanc.
    A nose of pear and honeysuckle, lovely mouthfeel with flavours of ripe peach and pear.

    A Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay blend, this has lime, grapefruit and peach notes, with tropical fruit on the palate, good minerality and great length. One of SA’s finest whites!

    AOP Viré-Clessé 
    From a village adjacent to Pouilly Fuissé, this magnificent wine is made from 80 year-old Chardonnay vines, of which 10% is aged in oak. A stunning white Burgundy. Elsewhere it sells for £14.95!

    Classic Malborough Sauvignon is from a single vineyard, which gives great concentration. Passion fruit, gooseberries and tropical fruit abound – with racy acidity at the finish. Great value!

    AOP Saint Chinian Made from 30% Grenache, 50% Cinsault and 10% Carignan, pale pink, there is an inviting nose of red fruits, leading into flavours of peach and apricot.  A perfect aperitif! 
  1. Clos Bagatelle Rosé, Colline d’Assignan 2017                                                                                              £8.95
    AOP Saint Chinian 50% Cinsault with 30% Grenache and 20% Carignan, this is very much a Provence rosé in style, with a lovely floral nose, leading into white peach and summer pudding flavours.  Perfect with food!

 

RED WINES

  1. Percheron Shiraz/Mourvèdre 2016                                                                                                                  £6.25
    Western Cape, South Africa

    Co-fermented Shiraz and Viognier, and Mourvèdre added later, produce a soft Summer pudding red, full of dark fruit and hints of chocolate, with a savoury finish. Great party wine and wonderful with casseroles.

    AOP Côtes du Rhône Villages
    Made from mainly Grenache with some Syrah from six adjacent villages including Cairanne & Seguret. This is full of juicy, soft gluggable fruit – Côtes du Rhône Villages at it’s best!
  1. Domaine Boutinot Les Côteaux Schisteux, Séguret 2014                                                                        £10.95
    AOP Côtes du Rhône Villages 
    From the adjacent village of Séguret this is made from very old Grenache vines in a high-altitude vineyard. It is aged for 24 months in a mix of new and old oak. It is deep purple in colour, with a wonderful nose of ripe cherries, which leads into a big mouthful of succulent black and morello cherry fruit, with a hint of cedar and finishing with very gentle tannins

    This is a delicious 50:50 mix of Grenache noir and Syrah. It has an inviting minty/herby nose with lashings of juicy blackberry and damson fruit on the palate with great elegance and freshness.

    Made from 50 year old Carignan, Grenache, Syrah & Mourvèdre and gently oak-aged, this is full of red berries, prunes, black olives. Much acclaimed in the wine press. Available elsewhere for £13.95.

    AOP Saint Chinian 
    A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Carignan, aged in large oak casks. Intense black fruit nose with hints of mint and minerals. On the palate it is concentrated, with flavours of soft black fruits, displaying great elegance and finishing with lovely soft tannins and hints of balsamic and liquorice.

    IGP Pays d’Oc This fabulous oak-aged Merlot has ripe berry nose with hints of toasted brioche.  This leads into a soft, ripe mouthful of plummy dark fruit, finishing with soft tannins and hints of tobacco
  1. Saint Jean d’Aumières, Les Marnes, Cabernet Sauvignon – Medaille d’Or Paris, 2017              £6.75
    IGP Pays d’Oc A gorgeous nose of cassis and lead pencils. Pure, concentrated cassis fruit dominates the palate, with a silky texture, leafy hints and a touch of cedar at the finish.
  1. Château Saint Jean d’Aumières, L’Affranchi 2016                                                                                     £7.95
    IGP Pays d’Oc Made from 40% Grenache, 40% Syrah and 20% Carignan, there is a vibrant cherry-liqueur nose with hints of sloes and Kirsch. This opens out into a soft, mouthful of cherry fruit finishing with a touch of liquorice.

    AOP Terrasses du Larzac This blend is 45% Syrah, 40% Grenache and 15% Carignan with some gentle oak ageing. A gentle minty with hints of truffle. The palate is bursting with black fruits.  It is rich and complex with gamey flavours, a hint of liquorice at the finish, very little tannin and great length.

    This continues to be one of the great bargains that we show year after year. Made from the Ripasso method, this is medium/deep in colour with a gorgeous nose of morello cherries, and a soft, ripe, intense mouthful of morello cherry fruit.

    One of the founding vineyards of this war-torn part of the world. This superb high-altitude blend of Cabernet Sauvignon Syrah & Cinsault is a delight of Morello cherries, cedar, rosemary and cloves. 

Fizz & Dessert Wines

    1. J Laurens La Rose No 7                                                                                                                                 £11.50
      Crémant de Limoux Rosé 
      This is made from 60% Chardonnay, 25% Chenin Blanc and 15% Pinot Noir and recently won a Coup de Coeur in the prestigious Guide Hachette. It is a subtle pink colour, with mouthwatering strawberry and raspberry aromas of Pinot Noir on the nose. It has a lively mousse with a delicate creamy mouthfeel. The palate is bursting with strawberry/raspberry fruit, with hints of redcurrants towards the finish.

      Crémant de Limoux A great find many years ago, we continue to import this delicious fizz. Made from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay & Chenin Blanc by an ex-Champenois vigneron, you’d have to pay double this to get champagne of comparable quality!
    1. Villa Dria Petit Manseng 2015                                                                                                                       £8.95
      IGP Côtes de Gascogne
      Made from the Petit Manseng grape, which makes the fabled sweet or moelleux wines of the Jurançon appellation. Lemon/straw in colour, it has a delightful honeyed nose with elements of quince and baked apples.  It is bursting with tropical fruit flavours, honey and apple with an underlying twist of lemon zest and marmalade.
      Not too sweet, it finishes cleanly with racy acidity and has great length.   
      Enjoy it, like the French, with Foie Gras.  But it is superb with blue cheeses, perfect with fruit salad, or decadently enjoyable on its own!
