Exciting New Wines from Italy
For the first of this year’s tutored tastings it’s good to welcome you all in person to some brilliant new Italian wines, that we have carefully selected for the occasion.
With just under 400 indigenous grape varieties used in making wine in Italy, we have tasted our way through some thrilling samples made in unexpected places.
We’ve got a delicious, zippy white from Lake Garda, and a stunning Malvasia from Lazio, that’s like a Frascati on steroids!
There are two stunning wines – a Vermentino and a Cannonau, from one of the most exciting producers in Sardinia.
From Sicily, we’ve got a racy red from near Mount Etna, perfect for summer drinking.
From Puglia there’s a great new discovery, where the Ottavianello grape variety makes a fantastic summer pudding of a red.
From Tuscany, we’ve uncovered a marvellous new red from a winemaker who has resurrected the traditional Governo process, which was used in Chianti.
These are all very exciting wines.
We’ll welcome you all with a glass of wine in the lovely Medical Society gardens before the tasting starts. This will be a tutored tasting and you’ll be guided through the tasting with an explanation of the place and wine-making involved, illustrated with slides of the vineyards and winemakers.
We will announce a special offer of these wines at the same time, and they will be available at this special price for those attending the tasting.
A ticket will cost only £10 per person and guests are welcome.
It will be good fun! It’s a great way to share some brilliant new wines with some excellent company from the York Medical Society.
