Tenuta Serranova Ottavianello 2018
DOP Ottavianello di Ostuni
Tenuta Serranova is situated in Puglia, the heel of Italy, and there are just 3 hectares of Ottavianello bush vines planted in clay-limestone soils. The grapes are hand-harvested in the first half of September, and undergo fermentation at controlled temperature for 15-20 days in stainless steel, to capture all the primary fruit flavours. The wine is then aged in concrete tanks, before kept for 3 months in bottle before release.
It is medium depth in colour with some age at the rim. There is a vibrant nose of red berries and violets with a hint of spice. On the palate it is soft, rich and concentrated with flavours of dried figs, loganberries and dates. There are soft tannins at the finish with a delicate lingering taste of aniseed and liquorice.
Ottavianello aka as Cinsault is normally a star in Provence rosé.  Who would have thought it could have produces a red as delicious as this in southern Italy!
