An exceptional cuvée made in the area adjacent to the appellation of Saint Emilion, this is a very unusual selection of 100% Merlot, selected from 50-year-old vines and then aged in new oak barrels for 17 months.
We imported this eight years ago when it is was impenetrable in its youth. After careful aging in our cellars it is now reaching its drinking window and starting to display its true potential.
Deep in colour with a hint of mahogany at the rim, it has an expensive cigar box and cassis nose. In the mouth there is an explosion of concentrated blackcurrants/black fruits with complex spice, fruitcake, chocolate flavours and finishes long. It has good balancing acidity and the tannins are softening nicely. Perfect with a good steak or venison.
It will continue to soften and become more complex over the next 10 years.
