Much as we love full-bodied reds, there’s a time especially in the Summer months when a fresh fruity red is the perfect wine to enjoy with BBQs, picnics and salads, or just to enjoy in the garden. Even better, if it is lightly chilled.
We’ve got the perfect two wines for you. They are both skilfully vinified to highlight the fruit, and by avoiding tannins they are soft and deliciously fresh. The French very appropriately call them vins de plaisir! Wines designed to be shared and enjoyed with friends…

Domaine Girard Pinot Noir 2023
IGP d’Oc
Philippe Girard makes a beautiful Pinot Noir, made for summer drinking! The grapes come from from high altitude 30-year old vines with low yields of 35hl/ha in the Limoux area, near Carcassonne. By avoiding oak-ageing he is able to showcase the wonderful purity of fruit of Pinot Noir.
It is medium/pale purple in colour with a vibrant Pinot nose of black cherries. On the palate, it is delicate and full of joyous black cherry fruit, finishing with redcurrants and a hint of pepper with a crisp finish. Lightly chilled it goes perfectly with charcuterie, salads or lamb cutlets grilled with Provence herbs.

Domaine Jouclary Grenache Noir sans sulfites 2023
IGP Pays d’Oc
This wine, from Pascal Gianseni in Cabardès, involves scrupulously clean vinification to avoid the addition of sulphur. The result is a beautifully pure wine that expresses the gorgeous fruit of Grenache.
Medium purple in colour, it has a beguiling perfumed nose of wild strawberries. On the palate is bursting with soft, fresh summer fruits with a hint of mint, and good length. Another perfect BBQ wine, and you can happily glug this on its own. It will even benefit from half an hour in the ‘fridge.
And if you’re prone to sulphur-inducing headaches from red wines, this bottle has your name on it!
