False Bay Vineyards in South Africa

Paul Boutinot has provided wine for the YMSWC ever since its inception.  The premium Circle of Life wines from his beautiful Waterkloof estate in South Africa are very popular with members.
Building on his success, he has extended with an independent company False Bay Vineyards, which produces crafted wines at very affordable prices, with Waterkloof Cellarmaster Nadia Barnard  (pictured above) at the helm.
These wines are produced from sustainable coastal vineyards with old vines using minimal intervention and natural wild yeasts.  The results speak for themselves.

We are offering a Mixed Dozen of the following:

False Bay Slow Chenin Blanc 2022
Coastal Region
The grapes are sourced from old bush vines in the Swartland and Stellenbosch regions, and it is the low yields from these old vines that are the key to making fabulous Chenin Blanc.
The wine is left on the lees for 10 months before bottling, to add complexity and mouthfeel.  There are no additives other than the judicious use of sulphur as a preservative.
On the nose there are bready aromas with hints of fennel and aniseed. This leads into a textured mouthful of soft apple/honeyed fruit, finishing with suggestions of lemon curd and good acidity.

False Bay Old School Syrah 2022
Coastal Region
This wine is sourced mainly from two vineyards in Stellenbosch, chosen because of their cooler temperatures and low yields.  Harvesting is by hand and fermentation is with wild yeast using a small proportion of whole-bunch grapes, to enhance complexity and freshness. The wine is then allowed to develop in large wooden casks – foudres.
Deep purple in colour, there is an enticing nose of raspberry and a hint of vanilla. On the palate it is bursting with concentrated raspberry and blackberry fruit, yet it remains elegant and fresh with good natural acidity.
A joy to glug on its own, but a great with most meat dishes.
