We’ve put together a selection of members’s favourite wines from our cellars to help you try something new…

In the Whites, to show that Chardonnays are alive and kicking we have the moreish Domaine de Jouclary 2018 and the stylish Pouilly Fuissé look-alike from Domaine Girard Chardonnay elevé sur lies fines 2019, while the Terres de Chatenay Viré-Clessé 2026 and the Domaine la Motte Chablis Vieilles Vignes 2016 are stunning examples of White Burgundy. 

Venture into Italy to enjoy the Cavit Rulendis 2018, a Pinot Grigio like no other, and the floral delights of the Vidussi Ribolla Gialla 2018

Sauvignon Blanc lovers will be delighted by the contrasting styles of the Domaine Pré Baron 2019 from the Touraine in the Loire, the Winterhoek 2018 from South Africa and the textbook Marlborough Sauvignon from Sileni Straits 2019 in New Zealand.

Finally, from Chile bask in the sun-ripened fresh styles of the Tabali Chardonnay 2017, almost French in structure, and the exotic fruit of the Los Signos La Vinilla 2018. 


In the Reds, there are some wonderful wines from Clos Bagatelle in Saint Chinian, ranging from the soft, brambly Aux Quatre Vents 2019 to the range-topping complexity of the Au Fil du Soi 2017

In the Southern Rhône, Domaine Boutinot’s wines continue to represent stunning quality for the money. 

In the Languedoc Domaine Girard’s Pech Calvel 2018 is a great example of the new quality Pinot Noirs starting to emerge from the cooler climate around Limoux, while their Cuvée Néri 2018 is an award-winning tour de force of a Bordeaux-style wine.

From Chile, the organic wines from Signos Los Murros Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 and the very popular Salvaje Syrah 2019 are both bursting with a purity of fruit and flavour.

In South Africa, the Circumstance Cabernet Franc and the complex Circle of Life Red from Waterkloof wines would go perfectly with the turkey, and the Le Riche La Richesse 2016  is a gorgeous Cabernet-based wine.

Finally, from Spain the Ontanon Reserva 2010 is a marvellous example of Rioja at its best.


  1. False Bay ‘Slow’ Chenin Blanc 2018
    Coastal Region, South Africa
    A long wild yeast ferment produces soft creamy fruit with dried herbaceous notes, hints of fennel and aniseed.  Amazing value for money!


  2. Domaine des Lauriers, Prestige Picpoul 2019
    AOP Picpoul de Pinet

    Consistently our favourite Picpoul, it has a green tinge, with a citrusy nose.  On the palate there is great concentration of soft fruit, an aromatic finish, a hint of refreshing spritz and a long aftertaste.


  3. Domaine Jouclary Chardonnay 2018
    IGP d’Oc
    Harvested in the early hours of the morning to maintain maximum freshness, this has a smoky/toasty nose with loads of exotic peach and mango fruit, finishing with a long nutty finish. Textbook Chardonnay!


  4. Domaine Pré Baron Sauvignon Blanc 2019
    AOC Touraine
    Pure Sauvignon aromas of elderflowers and hedgerows lead into a racy mouthful of redcurrant leaf and gooseberry fruit. The 2019 vintage is richer than usual. More than a match for many more expensive Sancerres!


  5. Winterhoek Sauvignon Blanc 2018
    Ceres Plateau, South Africa
    A very classy Sauvignon Blanc, made from 50:50 stainless steel and 3rd fill barriques vinification, giving it great texture and complexity with soft gooseberry fruit and a lovely savoury finish.


  6. Vila Nova Alvarinho 2018
    Vinho Verde, Portugal
    This vinho verde is made from the Alvarinho grape, well known in Spain. Citrus aromas with hints of mandarin mark the nose. There is lovely texture, delicious stone fruit and good minerality on the finish.


  7. Vidussi Ribolla Gialla 2018
    Collio, Friuli
    A great new find, made from the Ribolla variety, this has a wonderful floral nose with juicy fruit flavours of guava and mandarin, underpinned by a gentle aromatic quality, finishing with a hint of orange zest.


  8. Cavit Rulendis Pinot Grigio 2018
    DOC Trentino

    Forget everything you thought you knew about Pinot Grigio!
    This stunning wine has aromas of honey, ripe stone fruit with citrus and lightly spicy notes. The palate is complex with lime, citrus characters balanced by a spicy minerality, structure and length.  A great alternative to a good Chablis.


  9. Domaine Girard Chardonnay, elevé sur lies fines 2018
    IGP d’Oc
    If you adore White Burgundy but find the prices prohibitive, then this is for you.  Grown at high altitude, in the areas adjacent to Limoux, this Chardonnay is then left on the lees in 500L oak barriques.
    It has nose that transports you to Burgundy!  Lovely mouthfeel, subtle oak, ripe with good acidity, and great length.  Great price for this quality!


  10. Domaine des Terres de Chatenay, Fontenay 2016
    AOP Viré-Clessé
    From a village adjacent to Pouilly Fuissé, this magnificent wine is made from 80 year-old Chardonnay vines, of which 10% is aged in oak. A stunning white Burgundy. Elsewhere it sells for £14.95


  11. Domaine la Motte Vieilles Vignes 2016
    AOP Chablis
    Good value Chablis is extraordinarily hard to find, and we’ve got this sensational old vine cuvée! This has all the hallmarks of quality – mouthwatering green apple fruit, steely acidity and great minerality.     
  12. Emiliana, Signos de Origen La Vinilla Organic 2018
    Casablanca Valley, Chile
    An amazingly successful organic wine in the UK. An exotic blend of Chardonnay, Marsanne, Viognier and Roussanne, it is rich and full of the flavour of lychees, honey, ginger and a touch of cream soda!


  13. Tabali Talinay Chardonnay 2017
    Limari Valley, Chile
    From a great limestone terroir, cooled by sea breezes from the Pacific Ocean, this is vinified – with daily battonage – in French oak barrels.  
    One of Chile’s best Chardonnays, it has almost Burgundian precision – it is rich, complex, with mineral character from the chalk terroir, and an underlying salinity.  Very long. A stunner!


  14. Sileni ‘The Straits’ Sauvignon Blanc 2019
    Marlborough, New Zealand
    Classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.  Passion fruit, gooseberries and tropical fruit abound – with racy acidity at the finish.  Elsewhere it retails for £14.95 – great value for this quality!



  15. False Bay Old School Syrah 2018
    Coastal Region, South Africa

    From two vineyards in Stellenbosch, this is purple in colour, with an enticing nose of raspberry and a hint of vanilla. On the palate it is bursting with concentrated raspberry and blackberry fruit.


  16. Aux Quatre Vents 2018
    IGP de l’Hérault
    Made by Clos Bagatelle, this delicious blend of 50% Cabernet Franc, 30% Mourvèdre and 20% Grenache is perfect for easy drinking. It is full of soft brambly fruit with a herbaceous edge, and some length.


  17. Tabali Vetas Blancas Reserva Especial Pinot Noir 2015
    Limari Valley, Chile
    A blend from two vineyards with different terroirs, aged in French oak for 12 months. Strawberry and smoky plum on the nose, with silky redcurrant, raspberry fruit on the palate. Complex & stylish.


  18. Domaine Boutinot Les Côteaux 2016
    AOP Côtes du Rhône Villages
    Made from mainly Grenache with some Syrah from six adjacent villages including Cairanne & Seguret. This is full of juicy, soft gluggable fruit – Côtes du Rhône Villages at its best.


  19. Domaine Boutinot Les Côteaux Schisteux, Séguret 2015/16
    AOP Côtes du Rhône Villages
    From the adjacent village of Séguret this is made from very old Grenache vines.  It is deep purple in colour, with a wonderful nose of ripe cherries, which leads into a big mouthful of succulent black and morello cherry fruit, with a hint of cedar and finishing with very gentle tannins.


  20. Sentiers de Bagatelle, Colline d’Assignan 2015/16
    AOP Saint Chinian
    A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Carignan, aged in large oak casks. Intense black fruit nose with hints of mint and minerals. On the palate it is concentrated, with flavours of soft black fruits, displaying great elegance and finishing with lovely soft tannins and hints of balsamic and liquorice.


  21. Clos Bagatelle Au Fil de Soi 2017
    AOP Saint Chinian

    Clos Bagatelle’s top wine and an award-winning wine in Decanter Magazine, this is a class act!
    It is made from 50% Syrah & 30% Grenache with some Mourvèdre, and then oak-aged for 12 months.  This is a lush, opulent, ripe and succulent wine, bursting blackcurrant and cherry fruit, with great complexity.


  22. Domaine de Bel-Air,  Les Burdelines 2013
    AOP Moulin à Vent

    A Cru Beaujolais, that shows with bottle age Moulin-à-Vent becomes almost Burgundian in style.   A perfumed nose of ripe fruit, almonds and irises and the barest hint of oak leads into a very elegant, round, silky, complex wine with a mineral aftertaste.


  23. Domaine Girard Pech Calvel Pinot Noir 2018
    IGP d’Oc
    Medium/light in colour.  Raspberry and strawberry Pinot flavours abound with a hint of oak. Elegant and delicious.  A delicious traditional take on a Pinot Noir that represents much better value than many Bourgogne Pinot Noirs.


  24. Domaine Girard Cuvée Néri 2018
    AOP Malepère 
    This is made from 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, but from the best cuves which are then aged in oak.  Deep in colour, with a nose of cassis, cedar and hints of nutmeg, it is packed with concentrated fruit with flavours of fruitcake, spice, cinnamon and cloves, and a long finish.

  25. Ontanon Rioja Reserva 2010 
    Raquel, Ruben and Maria Pérez Cuevas are part of five generations of the Cuevas family making classic Rioja with a touch of modernity.  From mountain vineyards at 900 metres altitude in the Rioja Baja, this marvellous Reserva with ripe damson and bramble fruit, and spice and orange peel, and great length.

    An organic wine, with fantastic balance, poise and elegance! Paul Boutinot’s award-winning red, handcrafted from Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet, Mourvèdre, Petit Verdot and Cinsault…


  27. Circumstance Cabernet Franc 2016
    Waterkloof, Stellenbosch

    On the nose this is a classic Cabernet Franc with hints of pencil shaving, tomato leaf and lovely red fruits. This is a very elegant wine with pure raspberry and redcurrant fruit, a hint of blackcurrant leave, and underpinned with effortless tannins, finishing long.

  28. Le Riche ‘Richesse’ 2016
    Deep in colour with a minty nose, this Cabernet-based multi-blend is packed with velvety cassis and red berry fruit, soft tannins, hints of eucalyptus and great length. The complexity comes from too many varieties to mention!


  29. Salvaje Syrah-Roussanne 2019
    Casablanca Valley, Chile
    This organic wine is made from 97% Syrah with 3% Roussanne.
    It is concentrated, silky-smooth, and very elegant with gorgeous blackcurrant and blueberry fruit.  Absolutely delicious to drink now.  Consider it to be like a Côte Rôtie on steroids!


  30. Signos de Origen Los Morros Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
    Emiliana, Maipo Valley, Chile
    A top-notch Chilean Cabernet with stunning purity! Ruby red in colour with aromas of ripe blackcurrant and liquorice along with hints of cedar wood. The palate bursts with blackcurrants, black fruits and figs, finishing long with soft, ripe tannins.


  31. Emiliana Coyam, Colchagua Valley Organic 2018
    Colchagua Valley, Chile
    This wine is an exotic blend of many varieties, including Syrian and Cabernet Sauvignon.  It is made from biodynamically grown grapes in the Los Robles vineyard in the Colchagua Valley, then aged in oak barrels.  It has to be tasted to be believed!  93 points in Decanter magazine…



  32. J Laurens Les Graimenous 2018
    Crémant de Limoux
    Using the methode traditionelle (as used for champagne), this is made from 60% Chardonnay, 30% Chenin Blanc, 5% Pinot Noir and 5% Mauzac. It has a fresh yeasty/bready nose, so redolent of champagne, and a lively, creamy texture with hints of apple and brioche.  It is just perfect as an aperitif or on its own!


  33. J Laurens La Rose No 7
    Crémant de Limoux Rosé
     Also method traditionelle, this is made from 60% Chardonnay, 25% Chenin Blanc and 15% Pinot Noir. It is a subtle pink colour, with mouthwatering strawberry and raspberry aromas of Pinot Noir on the nose. It has a lively mousse with a delicate creamy mouthfeel. The palate is bursting with strawberry/raspberry fruit, with hints of redcurrants towards the finish.


  34. Château Crabitan-Bellevue 2013
    AOP Sainte-Croix-du-Mont
    This was an excellent year, combining great ripeness with freshness. Light gold in colour, on the nose there are citrus notes with hints of marmalade and honey. It is concentrated yet very elegant, with flavours of honey, confit lemons and frangipani , finishing with clean acidity and great length
