Emiliana, Signos de Origen La Vinilla 2013
Casablanca Valley, Chile
A great new discovery! This full flavoured white is organic and made from a single vineyard in the Casablanca Valley. Dynamic winemaker Noelia Orts has worked in both New Zealand and Spain. This is a gorgeous blend of Chardonnay, Marsanne, Viognier and Roussanne. It is rich and full of the flavour of lychees, honey, ginger and a touch of cream soda! Oriental food calls, or just enjoy it on its own …

Tabali Talinay Sauvignon Blanc Coastal Limestone Vineyard 2012
Limari Valley, Chile
Situated in one of the northernmost vineyard regions in Chile, approaching the edge of the Atacama Desert, Tabalí commands a unique location in the heart of the Limarí Valley.  The local ‘Camanchaca’ fog blankets the Limarí area each morning and afternoon coastal breezes bring cool air which moderates the ripening of the grapes. The result is a range of truly distinctive wines with elegance, restraint and minerality. The dynamic young team lead by Felipe Muller (winemaker) and Hector Rojas (viticulturalist) have already scooped a cabinet full of the wine world’s most prestigious trophies.

This displaced the Sancerre and Pouilly Fumé from our list, and justifiably so!  Wonderful flinty, smoky, green apple and gooseberry flavours with racy mineral acidity and great length.  A serious Sauvignon Blanc that cries out for food.

Emiliana Adobe Carmenère Reserva 2013
Colchagua Valley, Chile
Emiliana is one of the world’s most important producers of organic and biodynamic wines and the largest in South America. They have transformed this vineyard and it is now certified fully organic.

The Carmenère variety comes from Bordeaux originally.  For many years winemakers thought that the Carmenère was Merlot and labelled it so.  This wine is made from 85% Carmenère and 15% Merlot and aged for six months in French oak barrels.  A soft purple wine, there is rich cherry fruit, hints of capsicum, clove and black pepper on the nose.  On the palate, it is bursting with ripe brambley and bilberry fruit with leafy undertones and a lovely sappy finish.  All too easy to drink!

Tabali Reserva Syrah 2012
Limari Valley, Chile
Situated in the same region as the lovely Sauvignon Blanc above,  the pure air, long hours of sunshine and diurnal temperature difference bestow fantastic purity on this beautiful Reserva Syrah. The grapes are hand-picked, and the wine is aged for 10 months in French oak.  It won IWC Gold and 2 Decanter trophy’s in 2007 and is one of the emerging stars from this new region, with its fine structure and peppery black olive fruit profile.  The nose has a fresh pepperiness and aromas of warm star anise.  There are smokey raspberry aromas on the nose.  It is rich and silky with concentrated dark fruits on the palate, and it is complex and very long.  A truly fabulous red.

An award winning wine with all the style of an expensive Côte Rôtie at a fraction of the price!
