Description

Malvasia Puntinata

Imperatori Malvasia Puntinata 2020
IGP Lazio
This wine hails from Lazio in the hills just south of Rome.
The Malvasia Puntinata has been cultivated on the volcanic soils of the Roman hills for centuries. It is so-called because of the tiny dots that frame the berries. It is a very delicate grape and Cantina Imperatori handle it with great care to achieve its full potential. Normally it is part of the blend with Trebbiano in the neighbouring area of Frascati, but here it is allowed to show how it can shine when allowed to stand alone.
Pale straw in colour, it has a vibrant nose of dried fruits with a hint of almonds. There is good concentration on the palate with flavours of peach and pear, followed by an almond twist and good acidity. It has a great freshness and finishes on a mineral note.

Ottavianello di Ostuni

Tenuta Serranova Ottavianello 2018
DOP Ottavianello di Ostuni
Tenuta Serranova is situated in Puglia, the heel of Italy, and there are just 3 hectares of Ottavianello bush vines planted in clay-limestone soils. The grapes are hand-harvested in the first half of September, and undergo fermentation at controlled temperature for 15-20 days in stainless steel, to capture all the primary fruit flavours. The wine is then aged in concrete tanks, before kept for 3 months in bottle before release.
It is medium depth in colour with some age at the rim. There is a vibrant nose of red berries and violets with a hint of spice. On the palate it is soft, rich and concentrated with flavours of dried figs, loganberries and dates. There are soft tannins at the finish with a delicate lingering taste of aniseed and liquorice.
Ottavianello aka as Cinsault is normally a star in Provence rosé.  Who would have thought it could have produces a red as delicious as this in southern Italy!
