Domaine Boutinot La Côte Sauvage, Cairanne 2010
La Côte Sauvage Cairanne 2010
AC Côtes du Rhône Villages
Using grapes only from the oldest plots, this is made from Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and old-vine Carignan, which were fermented in big open top fermenters and then aged in oak barrels for 20 months – largely old oak to avoid overoaking the wine.
The results are fantastic! It is deep in colour, with a wonderful nose of both dark and red fruits with hints of violets. On the palate is very concentrated and yet remains fresh with a gorgeous silky texture, bursting with flavours of raspberries and cherries and subtle hints of cinnamon and cloves. There are good, ripe supporting tannins and a touch of liquorice in the long finish.
Justifiably a Double Gold Medal winner at the Caliornian “Rhône shoot-out”. On sale elsewhere for £16.99.
