Description

This family-run vineyard is situated in the gentle rolling hills of the pretty Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux, surrounded by copses of mature trees, and now boasts a state-of-the-art winery.

Bordeaux has recently been blessed with a series of good and great vintages and following our last very popular shipment from the Vincent family in 2019, we have tasted the new vintages.  Once again we’ve been bowled over by the quality – not only of the whites but also of the fabulous reds! The wonderful fruit of the special Intense cuvées is particularly impressive.

Fabien Vincent has used his New Zealand experience to produce juicy Sauvignon Blancs.  The Réserve Blanc has delicious gooseberry flavours, enhanced by the judicious addition of Semillon filling out the middle palate. The Intense Sauvignon is a thoroughly modern Sauvignon, which leaps out of the glass and matches the quality of many modern Sauvignon Blanc wines, costing much more.

He has focussed just as much care on his reds. His brother Christophe has transformed the vineyard, massively improving the quality of the fruit. For varietal expression, fermentations take place at around 24°C. This can go up to 32°C if greater structure is required. They have invested in the very expensive technology of micro-oxygenation. This process involves bubbling microscopic bubbles of oxygen carefully under strict computer-monitored conditions to develop the texture and stabilise the colour of the wine. Then, the wines are aged on the lees with stirring once a week for 2 to 10 months, with a view to enhancing ripe and soft flavours and increasing length on the finish.

All their wines deliver much more quality than their prices suggest. Their wines continue to win medals and awards year after year at such prestigious wine fairs as Paris, as well as having regular awards in Guide Hachette and Decanter magazine.

A Mixed Dozen contains 3 bottles of each of –

Château Lamothe-Vincent Réserve Blanc 2021
AOP Bordeaux sec
This first white is an exquisitely crafted blend of 87% Sauvignon Blanc fermented in stainless steel with 13% Semillon, which is barrique-fermented.
It has a fresh floral, leafy, waxy nose which leads into a silky mouthful of gooseberry and pears, finishing with gentle acidity and good length. Remarkable value.

Château Lamothe-Vincent Intense Sauvignon Blanc 2020
AOP Bordeaux sec
Fabien selected the best grapes to make this special 100% Sauvignon Blanc cuvée, which has controlled cold fermentation and is then left on the lees for four months.
Racy blackcurrant leaf aromas leap out of the glass. It is full of concentrated mango/guava fruit and gooseberry flavours with a lovely mineral finish and gentle acidity. Great as an aperitif or with fish dishes.

Château Lamothe-Vincent Réserve Rouge 2019
AOP Bordeaux
A great blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc which is then aged for nine months in a combination of stainless steel and French oak barrels.
There is an inviting ripe, leafy Merlot nose, which leads into a satisfying mouthful of soft, rich cassis fruit, with a hint of spicy oak and very gentle tannin. It finishes with a long aftertaste. Decanter magazine has just awarded 95 points to this wine in the World Wine Awards! Outstanding value…

Château Lamothe-Vincent Intense Rouge, Medaille d’Or 2018
AOP Bordeaux
Fabien has changed the blend to 70% Merlot with 30% Petit Verdot, aged in French and American oak barrels.
It is deep in colour, with an intense nose of black fruits with hints of Rioja (the American oak influence), leading into a very concentrated, complex wine brimming with blackberry, damsons, dried figs, tobacco and liquorice with soft tannins at the finish.
Fantastic now but will develop in complexity over five years. Once again a Gold medal winner in Paris.
